MY STORY
Welcome to my journey. I have been playing the didgeridoo since 1993 and became a fully professional didgeridoo artist and teacher in 2001. With a classical background in harp and cello, and later expanding into human beatbox, ngoni, mouth harp, singing harmonics, and voice, my own distinctive musical style naturally emerged.
Over the years, I have toured internationally, teaching and performing across Europe, North America, Australia, Asia, Russia, and Africa. Highlights include performances at the DJ Tiësto concert at Gelredome, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, as a soloist at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wakefield Cathedral, and the Glastonbury Festival.
My strength in improvisation has led to collaborations with a wide range of artists and bands, allowing me to explore diverse musical worlds — from contemporary classical to electronic dance music, and from Indian classical traditions to African percussion. During my time in Australia, I had the privilege of studying with an elder custodian of the didgeridoo, deepening my connection to the instrument and its roots.
Teaching is at the heart of my work. I offer didgeridoo workshops for all levels, from beginners to masterclasses, and I am deeply committed to empowering female didgeridoo players worldwide — a mission that inspired my nickname, “Didge Mama.”
In 2006, I joined the Klawer Program, an initiative that uses music, dance, and visual art to educate and inspire underprivileged children. Until 2018, I travelled annually to South Africa as part of this program. In recent years, my focus has expanded to online teaching, allowing me to reach students around the world.
As awareness grows around the importance of healthy breathing, I have continued to deepen my knowledge in this field. Today, my passion lies in helping people reconnect with their vitality, joy, and presence through conscious breathing and sound.
Now, my passion lies in helping anyone who needs to regain their fun and energy through proper breathing techniques.
How I Discovered the Didgeridoo
It all started in 1993 when I first heard the mesmerizing sound of the didgeridoo. I was attending art school at the time, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to try playing this incredible instrument. Thankfully, the man who owned the didgeridoos was kind enough to show me how to buzz my lips. From the very first moment, I fell in love with the didgeridoo and spent my days discovering its magic.
Musical and Technical Exploration
Playing the didgeridoo is a journey of musical and technical exploration. With a single note, you can create harmonics, use your voice, and play with different sound wave sizes. Circular breathing brings a new dimension to playing the didgeridoo, adding rhythms to the mix. I explored different rhythms through Samba percussion and African percussion, and later, Indian classical music.
Breathing Techniques
To become an accomplished didgeridoo player, breathing is crucial. It requires training muscles in your face, neck, and lungs, and relaxation to allow air to flow freely. Playing the didgeridoo also has trance-inducing effects, altering brainwaves and oxygenating the body. For me, playing the didgeridoo helped release past traumas, sadness, and frustration, and improve my breathing.
Teaching and Coaching
I enjoy teaching and coaching didgeridoo players of all levels. As a slow learner myself, I understand why students may find certain techniques challenging. I am attuned to the energetic and psychological aspects of learning and enjoy the technical and physical side of playing the didgeridoo. Ultimately, I am motivated by helping others achieve their goals. Love and light always.
