MY STORY

Welcome to my journey! I have been playing the Didgeridoo since 1993 and became an entirely professional Didgeridoo artist and teacher in 2001. With my classical background in Harp and Cello, and now with human beatbox, mouth harp, and singing harmonics as additional ingredients, my unique style was born.

I have toured the world, teaching and performing in Europe, America, Australia, Asia, Russia, and Africa. Some of my most notable performances include the DJ Tiësto Concert at Gelredome, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, soloist at Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wakefield Cathedral, and Glastonbury festival.

My improvisation skills have allowed me to play with different bands and explore various music genres, from contemporary classical to dance, from Indian classical to African percussion. During my time in Australia, I had the opportunity to study with an old custodian of the instrument.

Teaching Didgeridoo workshops is my passion, ranging from beginners to master classes. I am determined to empower female Didgeridoo artists worldwide, hence my nickname ‘Didge Mama’.

In 2006, I joined the Klawer program, an initiative that educates and inspires underprivileged children through music, dance, and visual art. Every year until 2018, I had the honour of going to South Africa as a part of this program. In recent years, my focus has shifted to online teaching.

As more people are discovering the importance of breathing methods, I have been diving deeper into this topic. Now, my passion lies in helping anyone who needs to regain their fun and energy through proper breathing techniques.

How I Discovered the Didgeridoo

It all started in 1993 when I first heard the mesmerizing sound of the didgeridoo. I was attending art school at the time, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to try playing this incredible instrument. Thankfully, the man who owned the didgeridoos was kind enough to show me how to buzz my lips. From the very first moment, I fell in love with the didgeridoo and spent my days discovering its magic.

Musical and Technical Exploration

Playing the didgeridoo is a journey of musical and technical exploration. With a single note, you can create harmonics, use your voice, and play with different sound wave sizes. Circular breathing brings a new dimension to playing the didgeridoo, adding rhythms to the mix. I explored different rhythms through Samba percussion and African percussion, and later, Indian classical music.

Breathing Techniques

To become an accomplished didgeridoo player, breathing is crucial. It requires training muscles in your face, neck, and lungs, and relaxation to allow air to flow freely. Playing the didgeridoo also has trance-inducing effects, altering brainwaves and oxygenating the body. For me, playing the didgeridoo helped release past traumas, sadness, and frustration, and improve my breathing.

Teaching and Coaching

I enjoy teaching and coaching didgeridoo players of all levels. As a slow learner myself, I understand why students may find certain techniques challenging. I am attuned to the energetic and psychological aspects of learning and enjoy the technical and physical side of playing the didgeridoo. Ultimately, I am motivated by helping others achieve their goals. Love and light always.
