DESCRIPTION:Cutting right across styles\, genres and cultures\, Music Meeting Festival had been providing a platform for over 35 years for the world’s best artists: musicians who have rarely or never performed in the Netherlands\, with new projects or in special line-ups. During the festival weekend\, Park Brakkenstein in Nijmegen is traditionally the setting for musical encounters\, with over thirty concerts spread over three days. \nHistory\nThe first edition of Music Meeting took place in 1985. Back then the festival was called the ‘1st Multicultural Dance and Improvised Music Meeting’\, which soon became popularly known as ‘Music Meeting’. Up until 2003\, Music Meeting took place in the Concertgebouw de Vereeniging and Stadsschouwburg Nijmegen. Since 2004\, Music Meeting has taken place in the historical Park Brakkenstein\, and the label ‘Festival’ has been added to the name. Music Meeting now enjoys a history that stretches back over 35 years\, with a rich line-up of artists from all corners of the globe. DESCRIPTION:On October 4\, 2023\, the feast day of Saint Francis\, the first Animal Day Festival will take place in the Moses and Aaron Church entitled Canticle of Creatures\, with music inspired by Saint Francis\, who was committed to the world around him based on his bond with nature. \n \nAfternoon and evening program\nThe music festival consists of an afternoon and an evening program with compositions by Kate Moore \, winner of the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prize in 2022. Organized in collaboration with the HERZ ENSEMBLE and the Community of Sant’Egidio \, the festival celebrates the beauty of nature while raising awareness about environmental issues. The program is inspired by Saint Francis’ Canticle of the Sun (Cantico del Sole) and is a celebration of the elements of earth\, fire\, water and air\, which sustain every living thing under the sun. \n“When I walk\, I experience that the environment tells me a story; every part: the plants\, the soil\, the stones\, the animals. A song is a reminder to remember the wisdom of the land\,” said composer Kate Moore \nThe Animal Day Festival is offered as a meeting place where people from different groups can be inspired to love\, restore and heal their natural environment. The festival revolves around the universal bond in which everything and everyone is connected. Entrance is free. \nProgram Animal Day Festival October 4 \n1:00 PM lunch concert \nBloodwood Series: Sad Melodies and Fragile Memories\, Kate Moore/Rick Hendricks \nA performance and an installation based on the annual rings of trees. \n7.15 pm evening concert \nCantico del Sole & The Dam\, HERZ ENSEMBLE \nProgram based on coral reefs\, creatures that inhabit a Dam and sing their hearts out in the twilight and the Canticle of Saint Francis. \nHerz Ensemble consists of nine leading Dutch-based musicians. The band was formed in 2017 and is dedicated to carrying on the work of their artistic director Kate Moore . Connection with like-minded creative artists\, inclusivity and diversity are an important objective of the ensemble. The musicians want to be a sounding board for those who fall outside the mainstream.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, August 17th\, “de Tovertuin” will be hosting various workshops and events. Following the opening ceremony\, there will be a healing Zhineng QiGong session open to everyone. Guided by experienced QiGong Master Rob Tol\, you will learn fluid movements derived from ancient Chinese teachings that can work wonders for your health\, leaving you feeling wonderfully energized. We will also engage in “toning” with Hugo van der Hout. Toning is a freeform practice of singing harmonious sounds together. Starting with a single tone\, other tones gradually emerge\, creating ever-changing chords. You become part of the sound\, and the sound resonates within you. It’s a delightful and healing experience for everyone\, regardless of singing ability. The minimum number of participants is 10\, and there’s no maximum limit. Making music without instruments is possible too\, through body percussion. Elisabeth Beijerinck\, also known as Didge Mama\, will demonstrate this technique. Drumming on your body not only produces sounds but also releases stored energy\, resulting in better balance. During the break\, the Enchanted Garden will provide a delicious\, fully organic vegetarian lunch using products from their grounds\, of course. In the afternoon\, we will be captivated by the earthy sounds of Australian didgeridoos\, and you can learn the basics of playing this instrument. Whether playing it classically or with a hip beatboxing twist\, the possibilities are endless! Elisabeth Beijerinck (DidgeMama)\, Hugo van der Hout\, and Rob Tol will be your guides. Curious about the process of making a didgeridoo? Hugo will demonstrate it. Of course\, you’re also welcome to simply listen\, observe\, and stroll through the garden\, enjoying the blossoming flora. You can also meet the bees and the farmers. Lieuwe and Bram will gladly explain their ecological methods and open your eyes to everything happening in the Enchanted Garden. We’ll conclude the day with a gathering around the campfire if the weather permits\, or perhaps some water fun!
