DESCRIPTION:SoundBites is an accessible concert format for discovering today’s music makers. Through short 20- to 25-minute performances and a predetermined route at various locations in Theater aan de Parade or throughout the city\, you’ll experience today’s music together. The routes are carefully curated. Each route features young and more established artists who musically navigate genres. They perform in varying ensembles\, from a timpani solo to meditative tree verses for five musicians. Some concerts are more theatrical\, others purely concert-based; each one is unique and highly diverse. In addition to the Sound\, there’s also a Bite: a snack and a drink while you listen to a performance and chat with each other afterward. If you’re curious\, eager to explore\, and want to be surprised\, then Sound Bites are perfect for you. We’ll take you on a two-hour musical journey together\, introducing you to today’s music by today’s artists. \n\n\nSaskia Venegas\n\n\n\nSaskia Venegas is a composer\, theatre maker\, and violinist. She is inspired by Eastern modalities\, improvisation techniques\, and spectral music. Venegas has previously collaborated with the Kronos Quartet\, theatre maker Milo Rau\, and the Hermes Ensemble. Venegas has developed a special bond with cellist Maya Fridman. Fridman’s enchanting cello playing is also central to Venegas’ recent performance “Ur” (water in Basque). According to Australian Aboriginals\, water can serve as a spiritual guide in life. In her work\, Venegas expresses the ritual and healing power of water\, especially in light of our current climate problems and fragile ecosystems. In “Ur\,” dynamic light projections\, subtle scent creations\, and music converge. Cellist Maya Fridman is joined by\, among others\, didgeridoo player Lies Beijerinck\, whose deep\, sonorous tones ground the performance. The performance is rhythmically supported by percussionist Jacobus Thiele.  \nSaskia Venegas Aernouts is a New Maker at Music Meeting Festival. This concert is made possible in part by Music Meeting and the Performing Arts Fund NL.

Organized in collaboration with the HERZ ENSEMBLE and the Community of Sant’Egidio \, the festival celebrates the beauty of nature while raising awareness about environmental issues. The program is inspired by Saint Francis’ Canticle of the Sun (Cantico del Sole) and is a celebration of the elements of earth\, fire\, water and air\, which sustain every living thing under the sun. \n“When I walk\, I experience that the environment tells me a story; every part: the plants\, the soil\, the stones\, the animals. A song is a reminder to remember the wisdom of the land\,” said composer Kate Moore \nThe Animal Day Festival is offered as a meeting place where people from different groups can be inspired to love\, restore and heal their natural environment. The festival revolves around the universal bond in which everything and everyone is connected. Guided by experienced QiGong Master Rob Tol\, you will learn fluid movements derived from ancient Chinese teachings that can work wonders for your health\, leaving you feeling wonderfully energized. We will also engage in “toning” with Hugo van der Hout. Toning is a freeform practice of singing harmonious sounds together. Starting with a single tone\, other tones gradually emerge\, creating ever-changing chords. You become part of the sound\, and the sound resonates within you. It’s a delightful and healing experience for everyone\, regardless of singing ability. The minimum number of participants is 10\, and there’s no maximum limit. Making music without instruments is possible too\, through body percussion. Elisabeth Beijerinck\, also known as Didge Mama\, will demonstrate this technique. Drumming on your body not only produces sounds but also releases stored energy\, resulting in better balance. During the break\, the Enchanted Garden will provide a delicious\, fully organic vegetarian lunch using products from their grounds\, of course. In the afternoon\, we will be captivated by the earthy sounds of Australian didgeridoos\, and you can learn the basics of playing this instrument. This is a day where every level of didgeridoo player is welcome to learn and refine their skills. This day-long event is an opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the didgeridoo\, whether you are an absolute beginner or the most advanced player. A practice tube is also available for beginners to quickly learn the basic tone. Do you have your own didgeridoo? Definitely bring it with you. \nMorning program (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)Part 1: Basic techniquesBeginners: Learn to play the basic tones correctly to be able to go deeper in the afternoon.Advanced: Refining and perfecting to make more advanced techniques possible after lunch. \nPart 2: Circular breathingBeginners: Introduction; how does it work and how do you use this breathing when playing the didgeridoo?Advanced: Deepening and refining. A lot of attention is paid to the tongue and proper abdominal breathing and use of the diaphragm. \nLunch (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) \nAfternoon program (2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)Beginners get the opportunity to spend more time on what was covered in the morning\, such as tongue-cheek techniques\, lips\, jaw\, and breathing components. Advanced players will focus on the isolations of different muscles that are important for didgeridoo playing. This allows you\, for example\, to play a double wobble or an inhaled tooth by making certain muscle groups work separately or in cooperation. \nSPECIAL FEATURES* Doors open at 9:30 a.m. (we will start at 10:00 a.m.)* Chairs are available\, but it can also be nice to play while sitting on the ground.Do you have your own chair or cushion to sit comfortably on the ground?
